Community Corner January 2019

January Community Corner is mainly about Volunteering and Donating. 2019 is sure to be a great year. One of my goals this year is to feature Non-Profits and community good deeds throughout our Foothill Communities. Shadow Hills, Lake View Terrace, Sunland-Tujunga, La Crescenta, Glendale, La Canada-Flintridge, each and every one of these communities have numerous non-profits and charitable causes. Every little bit of spotlight can help and this year I am asking you to help me help them. Share the names and contact information with me and I will do my very best to feature as many on
Community Corner as possible. Learn more about all the info in this months Community Corner below the video.

The historic America Legion Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall parking lot needs to be upgraded to comply with community safety standards. They have researched the costs and need to raise the remaining $10,000 to bring the parking lot into compliance.  This upgrade needs to be done as soon as possible.

Why is this parking lot so important. The American Legion Hall is used on almost a daily basis, mainly by local scouting groups. However, there are numerous events to help out various non-profits throughout the Foothill communities that use this space for fundraisers and functions throughout the year.

Verdugo Hills Memorial Hall was built in 1925 by the veterans of American Legion Post 288 and it became a social center in the Crescenta Valley. It was located on Fairway and Rosemont until the flood of New Year’s Day 1934 knocked it off its foundation. The building was relocated and rebuilt on its present site on La Crescenta Ave. and Manhattan. The 93-year old building is widely used today by veterans and youth groups in the Crescenta Valley. The Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America use the Hall and the parking lot for their annual Scouting For Food event.

“Harnessing our talents and gifts to empower Los Angeles communities through Pop Up Giving Events.”

The next Pop-up giving event will be held at Crescenta Commons, the corner garden on the corner of Rosemont and Orange in La Crescenta. This event is organized by a very giving community member Melissa Toy Ozeas. Not only is Melissa asking you to help you should also know how much she and other members of the community as well as her family helped give to complete Crescenta Commons. We love reciprocity and are excited for her The Giving Express to utilize a place she and so many donated too so the giving can continue. A great pay it forward event.
