Community Corner Video and all the details below.

It’s the start of the Holiday season and in this months community corner, Robbyn Battles has some wonderful events and important dates you going to want to add to your calendar. Be a Santa to a Senior “tree ” goes up in the La Crescenta Library, Prom Plus has their annual Boutique, JohnHart has Clap for a Cause and of course Nov. 6th please be sure to go out and VOTE. Last but not least there is the  La Crescenta Christmas Tree Lighting on December 4th. Let’s get started with all of the details.

Nov. 17
Be a Santa to a Senior starts Nov 17 – December 14

Did you know there are hundreds of local seniors that have no family, will not receive one card or gift during the Holiday season? Be a Santa to a Senior was designed to bring some holiday cheer to as many of those seniors as possible. Starting Nov 17th at the La Crescenta Library a Senior giving tree will be placed in the main lobby. Please take a tag and buy a gift for a local senior. This is a wonderful feel-good Holiday project.

Nov. 6

Nov 6 please remember to vote:
Prop 5 and Prop 10 have to do with housing.

Prop 5:  This could potentially free up more housing and just remember the ripple effect if larger houses are on the market move up buyers will then be selling creating a better flow of inventory. Learn more about Proposition 5: https://ballotpedia.org/California_Proposition_5,_Property_Tax_Transfer_Initiative_(2018)
Proposition 5 excerpt: A “yes” vote supports amending Proposition 13 (1978) to allow homebuyers who are age 55 or older or severely disabled to transfer their tax assessments, with a possible adjustment, from their prior home to their new home, no matter (a) the new home’s market value; (b) the new home’s location in the state; or (c) the buyer’s number of moves.

Prop 10: Rent control don’t be fooled this will not free up housing there will be an independent Gov board to set pricing.

Repeals Costa-Hawkins. The measure repeals the limits on local rent control laws in Costa-Hawkins. Under the measure, cities and counties can regulate rents for any housing. They also can limit how much a landlord may increase rents when a new renter moves in. The measure itself does not make any changes to local rent control laws. With a few exceptions, cities and counties would have to take separate actions to change their local laws.

Requires Fair Rate of Return. The measure requires that rent control laws allow landlords a fair rate of return. This puts the results of past court rulings into state law.

Prop 6: YES This one confuses people. A vote YES means you want the gas tax repealed. Did you realize if you vote NO you are voting to allow Sacramento to raise continue to raise this tax without going to the voters. https://lao.ca.gov/BallotAnalysis/Proposition?number=6&year=2018
