Discover the Heart of La Crescenta: Crescenta Commons
In the charming community of La Crescenta, nestled within the Foothills, lies a hidden gem that embodies the true spirit of community collaboration – Crescenta Commons. This small pocket park, lovingly built by the community for the community, has become a cherished gathering spot for locals of all ages. Let’s stroll through the story of Crescenta Commons, where community bonds are nurtured and cherished.
A Vision Brought to Life
Breaking ground in July 2014 and formally dedicated in November 2015, Crescenta Commons is a testament to collective effort’s power. The park’s entrance, marked by hand-picked large rocks, exudes a sense of natural elegance that immediately transports visitors to a place of tranquility.
What makes Crescenta Commons even more remarkable is its funding – entirely sourced from community donations. The project received a significant boost from LA County Supervisor Antonovich, who provided support through LA County Public Works. As you walk through the park, the intricate circle of tiles beneath your feet catches your attention. These tiles, crafted by community members, each tell a story and represent a shared commitment to this green oasis.
From Tiles to Time Capsules
With over 200 community volunteers helping throughout the construction process, Crescenta Commons embodies the spirit of unity. Local professionals generously contributed their expertise to various aspects of the project, from designing and building to planting and crafting. The park’s rocks, pathways, and planters found their origins in the yards of neighbors who believed in the vision.
A stone monument resembling markers scattered across La Crescenta adds a touch of historical significance and doubles as a functioning sundial. Its presence serves as a reminder of the passage of time, of growth, and of the shared commitment that brought Crescenta Commons to life.
As you sit at the picnic table, shaded by the tree’s embrace, you’ll notice a plaque listing the table’s donors – a testament to the generosity of those who made this gathering space possible. Inside the monument lies a time capsule encapsulating hundreds of community members’ mementos, small keepsakes, and a scroll over 100 feet long signed by hundreds of community members.
Maintaining the Oasis
The commitment to Crescenta Commons doesn’t end with its construction. Monte Vista Elementary’s “Girls on the Run” fundraised for site maintenance, fostering a sense of responsibility within the young hearts of the community. The “Crescenta Commons Kids” initiative was born, enabling students to actively participate in caring for this beloved space. Currently, four local residents take care of the site. We hope to have a monthly clean-up the Commons day in the near future.
Volunteers work tirelessly to ensure the site’s upkeep and cover the cost of water, a responsibility shared with the local non-profit ASTER, which maintains an agreement with the County. As you wander through the park, you’ll notice the absence of trash cans – a gentle reminder to care for the space and leave it as pristine as you found it.
Coffee at the Commons: Where Community Connects

The community gathers to enjoy a cup of coffee and celebrate the essence of Crescenta Commons – unity, connection, and a shared love for the neighborhood.
