June 2022

Dear Reader,

The month of June brings beautiful bouquets, delicious fruits and vegetables, and an urge to get out there and enjoy the sunshine. However, one cannot forget two more important events in June, Graduation and Father’s Day. Congratulations to the class of 2022, and Happy Fathers Day. I ended the month of May by finishing the Santa Barbara Wine Country half marathon. The route was so beautiful that I spent more time focusing on the scenery than the race. Thank you to those who wrote and texted your thoughts about the excessive speeders throughout our communities. I’ll be back to the subject in a month or two.

Have you heard of iBuyer? “iBuyer” stands for “instant,” which is why they’re also called “instant offers.” Here’s how the process usually works: You get a letter or ad stating they will pay all cash for your home. Then, you go to an iBuyer’s website, plug in your home’s address, and fill out a questionnaire about your home. Within about 24 hours, you will receive a cash offer on your home. iBuyer companies claim it is the future of real estate, but whose interest are they serving? “I-Buyer is just a fancy name for a house flipper. They are not paying market value. Most experienced agents can bring you a buyer off-market and, more importantly, at market value. They will also negotiate terms to fit your needs. Always do your homework no matter which way you decide to move forward. One final tip is, always ask for an estimated net sheet that is prepared by an escrow company.

As of June 1, 2022, new water restrictions have gone into effect and will vary slightly from city to city. Most areas are limited to two days a week, with a similar time restriction before 9:00 am and after 6:00 pm. The larger municipalities like the City of LA have staggered the two days of the week, based on your address being an odd or even number. Don’t forget that trees need special care and can survive a drought if appropriately watered under the new restrictions.
