Clark is a magnet school, so attendance is based on its application and eligibility process rather than simply living nearby.

Perhaps elementary school is still a few years away.

Robbin’s Nest Preschool and Kindergarten has been part of La Crescenta since 1975. Robbin’s Nest is especially familiar to me because my daughter went there. Long before I was writing about community life around homes, the preschool was simply part of our own family’s life in La Crescenta.

There’s also La Crescenta Montessori Academy, near Boston Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. The Montessori option gives parents another educational approach to consider without having to travel far outside the community.

At first, these are simply names you’re researching because you’re new to the area. Then one becomes your child’s preschool. Another becomes the elementary school where you’re standing outside every afternoon. Someone you first met waiting for pickup becomes a friend.

Eventually you’re no longer learning your way around La Crescenta. You’re simply living here.

You can make the familiar Starbucks run or stop at Reborn Coffee at 3747 Foothill Boulevard. If coffee isn’t your morning ritual, Union Jack’s Tea has its La Crescenta flagship shop at 3610½ Foothill Boulevard, with teas from around the world and a collection of British goodies.

Before long, one of those places becomes your place. You know where you like to park, what you’re ordering and whether you’re grabbing something quickly or staying for a few minutes.
