There is a specific feeling you get when you turn off the busy freeway and cruise onto Honolulu Avenue. The air seems a little cooler, the pace slows down, and suddenly, you aren’t just in another Southern California neighborhood—you’re home. Think of Montrose as the heart of the Foothills. There are so many reasons to fall in love woth Montrose. I’m Robbyn Battles and I want to share this beautiful communinty with you.
As a local La Crescenta and Montrose real estate agent, I often tell my clients that you aren’t just buying a house here; you’re buying into a lifestyle. I’ve been in the business for over 38 years, but my connection to this area goes back much further. I actually grew up right here in Montrose! I still remember the magic of walking down to the Montrose Shopping Park as a kid back when we had the local theater. While some things have changed, that “Old Town” soul has never wavered.
A Walk Through Time
Montrose has always been a place with a story. Established over a century ago in 1913, the shopping park has survived the test of time by staying true to its roots. While the rest of Los Angeles grew into a concrete jungle, Montrose kept its wide, tree-lined sidewalks and charming storefronts.
In the 1960s, the community made a conscious effort to create the “Shopping Park” we see today—a pedestrian-friendly oasis. It’s that history of community preservation that makes every brick and bench feel special. When you walk these blocks, you’re walking the same path neighbors have shared for generations.
What’s Happening Around the Bend?

Traditions We Cherish
The legendary events here are the heartbeat of our community. From the weekly Harvest Market to the massive Oktoberfest and the Halloween Spooktacular, these traditions are why so many families want to call this area home. It’s a place where childhood memories are made of tree-lightings and popcorn on the curb.
New Flavors, Old Friends
The food scene in Montrose is having a serious moment. We are seeing incredible new restaurants opening up alongside our long-standing favorites. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite after a soccer game in La Crescenta or meeting friends for a long brunch, there is always a table waiting for you here.
Your Local Guide to the Foothills
For those of us lucky enough to live in the surrounding “gem” communities—La Crescenta, Sparr Heights, Glendale, and La Cañada Flintridge—Montrose is our town square.
Because I grew up here and have spent nearly four decades helping families buy and sell homes in these neighborhoods, I know every “niche” pocket of the Foothills. If you’re looking for an established real estate agent who understands the history of these streets as well as the current market, I’d love to chat. My name is Robbyn Battles, and helping people find their place in this community isn’t just my job—it’s my passion.
