Dear Community Reader, August and September wrapped up with a whirlwind, and I didn’t even have a chance to catch my breath. My daughter turned 26, and I spent 10 days in North Carolina babysitting my great-niece, catching up with my mom, and exploring Cary. I couldn’t help but notice how differently significant developments are planned compared to California.

While we’re talking about growth, a lot is happening here at home. Glendale has already designated all Montrose parking lots, as well as some near Glendale College, as surplus land. Still, the community remains unhappy about the City Council’s plan, especially after a councilmember quipped at a community meeting, if we love the lots so much, we should buy them—a remark many took to mean they’re for sale at the right price.

SB 79 would allow dense housing projects in residential neighborhoods near transit hubs. It’s currently on the governor’s desk until October 13, 2025, for approval or veto.

Back in La Crescenta, a proposed 80-unit project at Foothill and Briggs has neighbors raising concerns. This just in as of October 1, 2025: There will be a community meeting November 6, 6:30 pm at the La Crescenta Library Community Room to discuss the proposed development at Briggs and Foothill.

Fall also means events, and October is no exception. Montrose will host its always-popular Oktoberfest, followed by Spooktacular. Altadena is celebrating its first Oktoberfest on October 4, and Pasadena also has plenty of fall festivities lined up. And of course, Descanso Gardens will showcase its Carved event, a seasonal favorite. With so much change in the air, it’s a timely reminder that planning isn’t just for cities and events—many of my clients are also planning next steps.

For seniors, boomers, and solo agers, the hardest part is simply knowing where to start. I recently met with a couple who have lived in their La Crescenta home for 50 years. In just one conversation, we touched on everything from which home improvements make sense to where and when they might move, and what it’s like to make such a big transition after so many years.

And finally, a quick teaser for those looking for an authentic Spanish home in a fantastic neighborhood. I have a special listing coming soon that you won’t want to miss. Don’t forget to check out my Markets at a Glance report, which compares August to September. That’s it for this month, but there’s more every week on my blog. Follow along, and if you ever have questions, I’m just a call, text, or email away.

Warmly,
